Joan's bequeath to animal shelter

According to this report from the Monterey Herald/AP, Joan bequeathed the proceeds of the sale of her possessions to the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals in Monterey County California.

Joan's property will be sold at several auctions in New York between November and January.

Reportedly the sale could top $1-3 million.

Joan's Oscar statuette alone is expected to bring in $200,000 and $300,000.

According to this report from the Monterey Herald. Joan was a big SPCA supporter and adopted three of her dogs from the organization, that the SPCA will be used for improvements to its Animal Care and Adoption Center, and that a wing of the Adoption Center will be dedicated to her memory.

It doesn't surprise me that she would want to continue to care for animals. She had so many dogs! I'm sad the Oscar is being sold, but glad it will help others.
